Geoff Love and his Orchestra - Play Your Top TV Themes (1972)

One of the seemingly hundreds of albums released in the early 70s that gave us lots of TV themes.  Usually with the same kind of cover.  This is a great little album.  Geoff's version of Strange Report is top notch.  This album includes the self-penned theme to Bless This House.  Did he write anything else?

He released a similar album; Plays Your Favourite TV Themes.  I'll dig that one out sometime.

Thanks - more Geoff Love, please. Looking forward to the other TV one. "Superthemes" and "Big Bond Movie Themes" would also be great to listen to again. His version of OHMSS on the latter surpasses Barry's original (heresy, I know).

Thanks Algy. I didn't even realise he'd written Bless This House until I ripped the LP. I reckon Geoff gets a bit of a hard time by some in our circles, but I reckon he was great. Some of his stuff, even the Disco was good.

Don't worry, Doc. Bond and Super Heroes are in the pipeline.

BTW, I was banging on about how good Geoff's version of Strange Report was, I've upped Roger Webb's original Soundtrack here, see what you reckon:

I used to love these albums when I was a kid (still do!) and after converting over to CD in the late eighties (sigh) I got rid of them all, thinking that they were no longer any use now we had futuristic shiny silver discs!

Of course, I came to my senses years later and had to scour the globe to find them all over again :)

This particular one is a solid collection of superbly arranged tunes. Geoff Love has always held a special place in my heart, and I continue to enjoy these albums as much today as I did back then.

His version of the Strange Report theme is, in my humble opinion, batter than the original, and has always been one of my all-time favourite pieces of music, from any genre. It ranks right up there with Cyril Stapleton's "Department S" theme...awesome!

I did know that he wrote the Bless This House theme (TV Theme geek that I am) but wasn't aware that he wrote other cues for the series. I can only dream that one day the tapes will be unearthed by the boys over at Network!

The other Geoff Love LP's that were always treasured possessions of mine as a kid were the Star Wars, Close Encounters and Superthemes albums. I only have to see the covers and I'm an eight year old all over again, listening to them on my old Fidelity record player (teak veneered of course :)

Love all his Manuel albums too!

I have similar experiences to you there Jay. I loved GL albums as a kid as they always included stuff that I liked such as the Star Wars stuff. Similarly, I loved the Close Encounters and the Superheroes albums.

The first time I heard Strange Report I thought it WAS the original. It's perfect.

Hi there,

Just thought to point out that there is a jump on 00:07 track 07 The Onedin Line.

Oh bugger! Thanks VR. Why did it have to be that track? It's not one of my favourites.

After much searching, I've secured myself all the tracks from the "Superthemes" album that I so loved as a kid - I think it was a combination of the Star Wars and the Super Heroes albums - but I can't find the original track listing for it anywhere. Does anyone have it? I think I've got all the tracks (I have 20, does that sound right?) but I can't remember what order they were originally in (it was 25 years ago after all...).

I didn't mind the jump on track 7 actually, because I didn't know how it was supposed to sound, and therefore I had no idea there were actually jumped 20 seconds.

Now I saw Mark had posted this album anew, and I took the chance to check this out. Out of curiousity really, and I was really astonished the track 7 is 20 seconds longer on his post. Sincve I didn't know the intro of that track I was never bothered by the "edit".

This is a nice album, and I should have thanked you half a year ago for that. I am sorry that I didn't, don't even know why.
