I just downloaded Bongos and Brass, and I found that there is a problem with Slaughter On Tenth Avenue: A false start where the needle had to be lifted and replaced on the record made it through to the final recording.
This turned out to be a Good Thing, because it includes a few seconds of pure, perfect "surface noise" from between tracks 2 and 3. The Audacity sound editor's Noise Removal plugin was able to build an accurate noise profile from that lovely bit of hiss and crackle. Using this profile, I applied noise removal to all the tracks. (And removed the false start from track 3 of course.)
This is not quite "CD quality" but the difference is remarkable:

Keep the authentically groovy music coming, nothing's more better.
Thanks again for all the groovy tunes! Audacity is the bomb - Free Software, works the same on all operating systems, and as you just heard, it's not just for cutting and pasting: The built in filters are outstanding.

Ha! Thanks Unknown. I do that every now and then; forget to "trim" the track after I've recorded it.
ReplyDeleteUnknown, just downloaded and it sounds great. I suggest people use that link instead of mine.
